What is MapRecap

MapRecap is a browser-based travel timeline analyzer. It takes a Google Timeline JSON export, processes it entirely on your device, and produces a structured list of international trips with border crossing times, durations, and an interactive map.

No account. No server. No data leaves your device.

Who it's for

  • Visa applications — prove days spent outside your home country with exact dates and durations.
  • Schengen tracking — identify trips that involved non-Schengen countries.
  • Personal statistics — understand your travel patterns over time and export a year recap as an Instagram story.

How it works

  • Export your location history from Google Maps — Settings → Your data → Download your Maps data → Places visited → JSON.
  • Drop the file onto the upload screen and enter your home country ISO code (e.g. PL, UA, DE).
  • MapRecap parses the timeline, detects border crossings using country polygon data, and builds a list of EXIT / ENTRY pairs.
  • The result is a scrollable trip list with dates, durations, and Schengen flags, plus an interactive map.

Both Android and iPhone export formats are supported.

Privacy

All processing happens locally in your browser. Your location data is never uploaded to any server, stored, or shared. Once you close the tab, nothing persists.
