About
What is MapRecap
MapRecap is a free, browser-based travel tool. Build a multi-stop route and replay it as a shareable animated map — over a flat 2D map or a cinematic 3D globe — then export it as a video. Import your Google Timeline to analyze where you have been: border crossings, days spent abroad, and a year-in-review recap. Mark every country you have visited on a world map to build a shareable travel passport. And check the Schengen 90/180-day limit with a built-in calculator.
No account. No backend. Nothing uploaded.
Animate a travel route
- Add your stops by searching for cities, and pick how you travel between each — plane, train, car, bike, boat, or on foot. Flights arc along a great circle; road legs follow real roads.
- Choose a flat 2D map or a 3D globe, tune the camera and duration, and pick a format — 16:9, square, or 9:16 for Reels, TikTok and Stories.
- Export the result as an MP4 video, rendered locally.
- Open the animation builder →
Analyze your Google Timeline
- Upload your Google Timeline JSON export and pick your home country from the list.
- MapRecap detects every crossing of your home border using country polygon data and builds a list of trips with exact EXIT / ENTRY dates and durations.
- You get a scrollable trip list with Schengen flags and an interactive map, plus a year recap you can export as an Instagram story.
- Open the Timeline analyzer →
Both Android and iPhone Timeline exports are supported — the upload screen shows the exact export steps for each.
Map every country you've visited
- Tick off the countries you have been to on a world map and watch your stats build up — countries visited, percentage of the world, and continents covered.
- Export a shareable travel-passport image in 9:16, square, or 16:9 — or import your Google Timeline and MapRecap fills the map in for you automatically.
- Start yours on the Visited Countries Map →
Who it's for
- Creators & sharing — turn a trip into a shareable animated map video for social.
- Visa applications — prove days spent outside your home country with exact dates and durations.

- Personal statistics — see your travel patterns over time and share a year recap.
- Country counting — map and share every country you have ever set foot in.
Privacy
Your Google Timeline is parsed entirely in your browser — your location history is never uploaded, stored, or shared, and nothing persists once you close the tab.
Building a route uses standard map services to find places and draw roads (like any map app), but your uploaded Timeline never leaves your device.
