What's new

Every meaningful update to MapRecap, newest first. Free tools, no account — we just keep shipping.

New

French added

MapRecap is now available in English, Ukrainian, Spanish and French — including the country names drawn on your map and baked into the exported video.

New

Your visited countries, as a travel passport

The picture you export is a passport page now: paper and guilloche, a world map that traces your trips out from your home country, border stamps — or the flag of every country you have been to — your own data fields and a machine-readable strip along the bottom. Four looks, three formats, and the page opens on a finished example so you can see what you get before you start.

New

A 3D vehicle for every travel mode

Car, train, ferry and walking legs each get their own 3D model instead of an emoji badge — they ride along the route line the way the plane already flew it.

New

Pick your car, your train, your walker

A per-leg picker with thumbnails: six road vehicles, four train styles (steam, high-speed, diesel, tram) and two walking characters — plus a colour for the car on each leg.

Improved

Trains bend through curves

Steam, high-speed and diesel trains are drawn as real multi-car consists whose carriages articulate through bends instead of sliding around as one rigid block.

Improved

Ferry legs follow real sea lanes

A ship leg is now routed over actual shipping lanes instead of a straight line across the map. It is worked out inside your browser, so the route never leaves your device.

Fixed

A polish pass over the route animation

The tram renders in 3D instead of a flat emoji. Train carriages stay coupled on north–south legs rather than drifting apart. The walking figure and the ferry get contact shadows that sit under them instead of beside them. Flights over the pole stay in frame. The map credit baked into an exported video always matches the imagery actually drawn, so the export stays safe to use commercially. And the flat-icon switch no longer strands itself on a leg that has stopped showing it.

New

Satellite and Terrain map styles

Two real-imagery bases for your route animation: a cloud-free satellite mosaic and a clean pale relief map. Both work on the 2D map, the 3D globe and in exports — attribution included, commercial use stays safe.

New

30 or 60 fps video export

Pick the frame rate in the Export tab — 30 fps for smaller files, 60 fps for extra-smooth motion.

Improved

Whole-route camera and spinning propellers

A new camera mode holds one steady framing of the entire trip, and the plane now spins its propellers as it flies.

Improved

Calculator share image fits your phone

On a phone the day calculators now save a vertical, story-format summary card; desktop keeps the wide one.

Fixed

Smoother stop editing on the phone

City suggestions stay on screen with the keyboard open, a new stop scrolls into view, addresses get proper names, and "Add stop" waits until you pick a place — free-typed stops used to break the animation.

Fixed

Country tooltip no longer sticks on touch

On the visited-countries map the tooltip now fades out after a second instead of staying forever, and removing a country shows none at all.

New

Watch each country light up as you travel

As your route plays, every country you visit fills in with a soft fade — flights colour the country you land in, while car, train, ferry and walking legs colour every country you cross along the way. Give the whole trip one colour, or let each country take its own from a pastel palette. On by default, in the 2D map, the 3D globe and the exported video.

Improved

Round-the-world routes fly over land

The 2D map now wraps around the globe, so a westward or round-the-world trip flies over real land instead of running off the edge into empty ocean — in both the live preview and the exported video.

New

Official source for every rule

The Schengen, Turkey and CA-4 calculators now link straight to the authoritative source for the rule they count (including SICA for CA-4), so you can verify the law yourself.

Improved

Calculators are quicker to start

A quick-step strip and numbered steps walk you through, a worked example appears in the empty state, and a one-click "Clear" resets everything. Summary and calendar actions now stay hidden until you have added trips.

Improved

Clearer Google Timeline start

The analyzer page has a refreshed look that matches the rest of the site, plus an explicit "How to find your file" guide with steps for both Android and iPhone.

New

Calendar reminders for visa limits

The Schengen, Turkey and CA-4 calculators can now put a reminder straight into your calendar — your re-entry date, or the last day before you hit the limit. Download an .ics file (works with Apple, Google and Outlook) or add it to Google Calendar in one click.

Improved

Timeline format detected automatically

The Google Timeline analyzer now detects your export format on its own — no more choosing Android or iPhone by hand. Newer on-device exports (including current iPhone ones) that used to come back empty are now read correctly.

New

Turkey 90/180 calculator

Türkiye runs the same 90-days-in-any-180 rule as Schengen, counted separately. The new calculator tracks your Turkish days — with the rolling-window chart, future-trip planning and Google Timeline import you know from the Schengen tool.

New

CA-4 Central America calculator

Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua share one 90-day limit under the CA-4 agreement — hopping between them does not reset it. The new calculator counts your days from regional entry, shows your exit-by date and models the one-time extension.

New

Country and city names on your map

Your route now labels each country you pass through and every stop's city — right on the map and in the exported video — in your chosen language (English, Ukrainian or Spanish).

Improved

Cleaner, sharper map styles

The Midnight and Light 2D maps are now crisp vector maps that show only country borders — no roads or region clutter — and the coastlines stay sharp even when the camera zooms right in.

New

Send the flight path into the sky

A new toggle lifts the plane's route line off the map as it flies, casting a shadow on the ground below, so flights read as actually being in the air.

New

Pick your world-map projection

The visited-countries map now lets you switch between Equal Earth and Mercator projections — for both the on-screen map and the image you export.

Improved

Easier map control on desktop

The route builder now carries the full site header on desktop, and you can zoom the map with your trackpad or mouse wheel, just like any map app.

Fixed

Stylized map plays correctly

Fixed the "Stylized" map style so it renders properly during the 2D animation instead of falling back to the dark map.

New

Spanish added

MapRecap is now available in English, Ukrainian and Spanish.

New

Automatic language

The site now opens in your browser's language by default, and remembers if you switch.

Nicer link previews when you share

Sharing any MapRecap page now shows a proper preview image and description on social media and in chats.

Improved

Faster loads and tighter security

Self-hosted fonts, a lighter homepage demo video, and stricter security headers make the site quicker and safer to use.

Fixed

More accurate country data

Fixed the visited-countries map to count every country you have actually been to, handle disputed territories more correctly, and keep the on-map count and the list in sync.

New

Instagram export preview

A new landing page and a live phone mockup let you preview exactly how your animated map will look as an Instagram Reel or Story before you export.

Better trip analysis view

Analyzed trips now sort oldest-first by default, come with sorting and filtering, and show color-coded countries on each trip card.

Fixed

Smoother multi-flight routes

On round-trips and multi-flight journeys the plane now lands and takes off at each stop, and sliders no longer jump when you scroll past them.

New

Standalone timeline analyzer

The Google Timeline analyzer is now its own page, with a one-click "Animate" handoff that sends a detected trip straight into the route animator.

Improved

Search your home country by name

Pick your home country from a name search with autocomplete instead of typing a country code.

Accurate country detection

Fixed a data issue that could merge two distinct countries into one, and stopped long-haul flight arcs from overshooting their destination.

Fixed

Stable switching between map and globe

Switching between the 2D map and 3D globe mid-playback now stops the animation cleanly instead of glitching.

New

3D globe route animation

Animate your journey on a spinning 3D globe, complete with a plane following the route, progressive route reveal, and a smooth takeoff-and-landing feel. Export it as a video too.

New

Tileless "Stylized" 2D map

A new clean, tile-free map style for your 2D animations, drawn from vector borders for a minimal look.

Improved

Sharper 3D globe export

Globe videos now export at your chosen aspect ratio and a fixed high resolution, with a constant on-screen plane size no matter the camera tilt.

Fixed

Reliable mobile playback and export

Fixed video export on large screens, mobile play/reset controls, a readable reset dialog, and removed broken map tiles.

New

Home page redesign

A redesigned, animation-first homepage that leads with the route animator, plus a cleaner tabbed editor for building and styling your trip.

New

Play animations inline

Route animations now play right on the page instead of in a popup, so you can tweak the map style, colors, and speed and see the result immediately.

Improved

Per-segment styling and speed

Set the line color, style, and animation speed for each leg of your trip individually, plus camera controls and per-leg map icons.

Improved

Polished mobile portrait view

The route builder now has a proper mobile portrait layout with crisp retina map tiles.

Fixed

Correct routes across the map edge

Routes that cross the international date line now draw the short way around instead of wrapping the long way across the map.

Improved

Better search and social sharing

Added proper page titles, descriptions, and social preview tags across the site so pages look right in search results and when shared.

Fixed

Trip builder touch fixes

Fixed the stop delete button alignment, a stuck hover state on touch, and now allows only one empty stop at a time.

New

Plane flies above the map

A 3D plane marker now flies above your 2D map with a shadow, following a curved great-circle arc for flights and taking off and landing at each stop.

New

Recolor your plane live

Drag a hue slider to recolor the plane instantly, and toggle whether distance in kilometers is shown.

New

Homepage demo video

The homepage carousel now includes a looping demo video wrapped in a phone mockup so you can see the animation in action.
